SAFETY GROUPS PROGRAM FOR HOSPITALS

The WSIB Safety Groups Program is a prevention initiative aimed at eliminating injury and illness from Ontario work places. The program provides incentives for workplaces to develop sustainable health and safety programs, rewards demonstrated achievements in health and safety and supports mentoring and networking within the group to achieve success.

The Ontario Hospital Association began sponsorship of the Safety Groups Program for hospitals in 2003 with approximately 50% of hospitals joining this prevention initiative aimed at reducing frequency and severity rates. Approximately 68% of hospitals are currently participating in the 2006 program.

As program sponsor for the Safety Groups Program for hospitals, the OHA promotes the sharing of information, expertise and networking in order to achieve the safety group mandate. The OHA believes that Occupational Health and Safety should be integrated into every individual’s job at every level of the organization with the mandate to reduce accidents, injuries and illnesses through the promotion of workplace health and safety.
