Hospital Multi-Year Funding Announcement
Today, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care released individual hospitals’ operating funding planning information for the 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09 fiscal years. This marks the second consecutive year in which the Ontario government has provided hospitals with multi-year planning and resource management information.
Ontario’s hospital sector is slated to receive $13.35 billion in operating funding in 2006/07, $13.9 billion in 2007/08 and $14.5 billion in 2008/09. The figures released today are consistent with those announced in the 2006/07 Ontario Budget, when specialty mental health hospitals and private hospitals are added. It should be noted that the $13.35 billion for 2006/07 includes some funding for wait times, critical care, priority services, post construction operating plans and other initiatives that have yet to be allocated to individual hospitals.
The OHA understands that hospitals will receive additional information about their funding allocations in the time ahead. For information about individual and total hospital funding, please visit the Ministry’s website: http://www.health.gov.on.ca
Today’s announcement builds on the progress that has been made in improving funding predictability for Ontario’s hospitals. Predictable funding allows hospitals to better plan and work to meet patient care needs.
At the same time, the OHA believes that close attention must be paid to cost drivers such as inflation, growth in patient demand and patient volumes, and the potential cost of labour settlements, to ensure that hospitals have the resources necessary to continue to provide high-quality patient care. The OHA plans to continue working with the MOHLTC in the time ahead to protect patient care.
