From Steve Orsini, Vice President, Policy and Public Affairs
The Standing Committee on Justice Policy has just scheduled public hearings on Bill 110, the Mandatory Gunshot Reporting Act, 2004 for next week, Wednesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 3, 2005, to be held in Toronto.
Bill 110 was introduced by the Honourable Monte Kwinter, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services in June 2004 and requires hospitals and other prescribed health care facilities to report gunshot wounds to the police.
The OHA will be making oral and written submissions on the bill, informed by the results of a member survey conducted last summer. Hospitals interested in making an oral presentation on Bill 110 should contact the Committee Clerk, Katch Koch, at 416-325-3526 by Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. Those who do not wish to make an oral presentation but who are interested in commenting on the bill may send written submissions to the Clerk at Room 1405, Whitney Block, Queen’s Park, Toronto, M7A 1A2 by Thursday, March 3, 2005 at noon.
