The OHA Prepares to Release the Scope of Work for the GHCF Audit Program
July 30, 2010 - The OHA is preparing to release the scope of work for the GHCF energy and waste audit programs this summer. The documents will be forwarded to hospital contacts who have signed up on OHA's Green Mailing List and qualified vendors.
At this time, the OHA continues to incorporate feedback from hospital, partner, and government stakeholders into the audit program and is accepting Qualified Vendor applications for the online list of energy and waste assessment vendors. The application can be found here.
OHA Seeking Waste and Energy Audit Vendors for Qualified Vendor's List
June 22, 2010 - The OHA is currently soliciting interest from qualified vendors in the provision of hospital waste auditing and/or energy assessments.
The OHA will be including successful applicants in a qualified vendors list with a forthcoming GHCF incentive application package available to our 154 member hospital corporations located throughout Ontario. The Request for Qualified Vendors is now closes.
GHCF Audit Program details to Be Announced
June 2, 2010 - The Ontario Hospital Association’s Green Hospital Champion Fund (GHCF) recently concluded its pilot phase, in which nine hospitals tested various energy and waste assessment approaches designed to find cost-saving opportunities that will reduce the environmental impact of their organizations.
The findings of the pilot study form the basis of a GHCF Audit Program that is aimed at encouraging Ontario hospitals to identify opportunities to implement cost-saving energy conservation and waste management strategies.
The OHA is now in the final stages of developing the GHCF Audit Program. Additional details on the program and opportunities for funding will be announced at OHA’s Green Healthcare Conference on June 21, 2010. Hospitals and vendors interested in participating in the program should register for updates.
The GHCF, supported by the Ontario Government through the OntarioBuys initiative, is a program that will act as a catalyst to help Ontario’s hospitals improve their environmental performance and reduce operating costs through implementation of “green” projects.
The Green Hospital Champion Fund Launches Pilot Assessments
June 23, 2009 - The OHA launched a new program to support sustainability in hospitals called the “Green Hospital Champion Fund”. The program has been created in partnership with the Ontario government through the OntarioBuys initiative.
Just as the OHA serves a vital role in bringing a collective voice to other issues that hospitals face, the Green Champion Hospital Fund will bring a collective approach to dealing with environmental issues. The OHA will add its leadership to help reduce and divert waste, prevent pollution, and conserve water and energy, all while driving cost savings for the sector through the many operational efficiencies that these types of investments can provide.
Recognizing that hospitals often have challenges raising capital and securing funding for specialized sustainability projects, the OHA believes the Green Hospital Champion Fund is an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of how the longer-term efficiencies of ‘greening’ our delivery of care can help with ongoing budget pressures.
To this end, the OHA began piloting assessments related to current levels of waste generation and energy consumption at hospitals this fall. The information gathered through these pilot assessments will be used to develop an Assessment Incentive Program that will be offered to hospitals in 2010.
