 Janet M. Davidson , Chair

 

Janet Davidson is President & CEO of Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.  From July to December 2008, she also acted as Interim President & CEO of the Kingston General Hospital while that hospital was under government supervision.

 

Janet graduated as a nurse from the Toronto East General Hospital.  She has a BScN from the University of Windsor and a MHSA from the University of Alberta.  She has over 25 years health care management experience in the voluntary, hospital and government sectors in Alberta, BC and Ontario.  Prior to joining Trillium, she was Chief Operating Officer – Vancouver Acute with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.  Her portfolio included Vancouver General Hospital, G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre and UBC Hospital.  Prior to her arrival in BC in November 2003, Janet served as the President & CEO of Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH.)  She has also served as Chief Operating Officer for the Alberta Mental Health Board and Chief Operating Officer of the University of Alberta Hospital.  She also held the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of Health for Alberta.

 

Janet is the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of her contributions to health care and more broadly to the community.  She is a recipient of both the 125th Anniversary and Queens Jubilee Medals from the Government of Canada.  In 2004, she was a recipient of an Alumnae Honor Award from the University of Alberta and in 2006, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.  In 2009, she received a Doctorate of Laws Degree, honoris causa, from the University of Windsor.  She is a member of the Canadian College of Health Services Executives and serves on the Boards of the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC,) and the Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH.) 

 

Janet is also a long time Red Cross volunteer and is currently Honorary Vice President of the Canadian Red Cross.  She served for 10 years in a senior governance capacity within the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement and recently completed a 4 year term as Vice Chair of the Standing Commission, its highest deliberative body.  She is the recipient of the Order of Red Cross (both Member and Officer levels,) the Canadian Red Cross’ highest volunteer award.

 Peter C. Johnson, Past Chair

 

Peter Johnson is Chair of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and Partner at Lerners LLP, practicing corporate law. Peter was formerly a senior partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP practicing corporate commercial law. He has advised public, private and non-profit corporations with respect to mergers, acquisitions, financing, governance, licensing and reorganizations with particular emphasis on health care and technology.  He was legal counsel to London Health Sciences Centre, London Health Sciences Foundation and Lawson Health Research Institute and as counsel, led the merger activities for these organizations from a legal perspective. He has also represented the John P. Robarts Institute and LHSC in the establishment of their commercial ventures. Peter was also Chair of the Children’s Health Foundation and a director of Hydrogenics Corporation and Stuart Energy Corporation.  He currently is Chair of London Hydro Corporation and Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic.

 

Peter earned his LLB from the University of Western Ontario and his MBA and HBA from the Ivey School of Business. He was a part time lecturer at the law school until 1989, teaching Corporate Finance and Advanced Company Law, and the Business Law Section of the Law Society Bar Admissions Course in Business Law.

 

Peter Johnson was elected to the OHA Board in February 2006 and elected as Chair of the Board in November 2010. 

  

 

 Marcia Visser, 1st Vice Chair

 

Marcia Visser has more than 20 years experience in the health care sector both in Canada and the US.  As a trustee of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) Board of Directors, she chairs the Academic and Patient Care Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee.  She also chaired the Musculoskeletal and Academic and Research Committees.  

 

Marcia became a member of the OHA Region 3 Regional Executive Committee in 2008. 

 

In addition she is member of the Regent Park Community Health Centre Board of Directors.  She has served on a number of community committees including the City of Toronto Midtown Public Health Committee.  Her experience is in insurance, human resources, and health care delivery.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Masters in Health Services Administration.

 

Marcia Visser was elected to the OHA Board in November 2009.

 

 

  Malcolm Maxwell,2nd Vice Chair

 

Malcolm Maxwell has been President and CEO of Grand River Hospital in Kitchener since May 2007. His career has included CEO roles in hospitals in Nova Scotia and health authorities in Alberta and British Columbia.  He has also held senior health ministry roles in Yukon and Nova Scotia.  Within Waterloo Wellington he has participated in inter-organizational work to support integration in the areas of information technology, pharmacy and support services. 

 

Malcolm has served on the Boards of CIHI, Accreditation Canada, and the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation.

 

He holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies as well as a Masters Degree in Health Services Administration from Dalhousie University.  He has held an appointment in the faculty of graduate studies at Dalhousie as adjunct faculty in the School of Health Services Administration.

 

Malcolm Maxwell was elected to the OHA Board in November 2009.  

 

 

 Mark Rochon, Interim President and CEO 

 

Mark Rochon was President and CEO of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (Toronto Rehab) from 1998 to 2011. Mark joined Toronto Rehab after serving two and a half years as CEO of the Health Services Restructuring Commission (HSRC). In this role, he guided a province-wide initiative to reconfigure Ontario hospitals and other related elements of the health service system to meet the growing health care needs of Ontarians.

 

Prior to joining the HSRC in April 1996, Mark served six years as President and CEO of the former Humber Memorial Hospital (now part of Humber River Regional Hospital). He was seconded to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) in 1994 to serve a fifteen-month term as Ontario’s Assistant Deputy Minister, Institutional Health Group.

 

Mark has also held leadership positions at the Georgetown District Memorial Hospital and Bennett Health Care Centre, as well as the former Clarke Institute of Psychiatry (now part of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health).

 

During his over 25 years in senior hospital management, Mark has been an active participant in numerous health care related committees and councils. He was Chair of the OHA Board in 2007-2008. He is a currently Chair of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. From 2002 to 2005, he was Chair of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Work and Health, and during that time, also chaired the MOHLTC’s Specialized Paediatric Coordinating Council. Mark also served as a member of the Board of the Ontario Family Health Network.

 

 

 Paul Davies, Treasurer

 

Paul Davies is President and CEO of South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC). In his capacity as CEO of SBGHC, Paul provides leadership to a multi-site corporation consisting of sites in Kincardine, Walkerton, Durham, and Chesley.

 

Prior to joining SBGHC in 2003, Paul led denominational, non-denominational, single site, and multi-site hospitals in both northern and southern Ontario.

 

During his 20 years in senior hospital management, Paul has been active in advocating on behalf of small hospitals in the province of Ontario. Currently, he is a Small Hospitals Representative on the OHA Board, member of the OHA Executive, Chairperson of the OHA Finance Committee, Vice-chair of the Small, Rural, and Northern Provincial Leadership Council, Chairperson Region 5, and  former Chairperson of the Joint Policy and Planning Committee responsible for the Core Services Report.

 

Recently, Paul has worked closely with the MOHLTC to assist hospitals in achieving equitable funding through the Multi-site funding review and the Peer Review Process. At a local level Paul co-chairs the Southwest LHIN CEO group and is the co-chair of the Grey Bruce Health Coalition.

 

Paul Davies was elected to the OHA Board in November 2005.

 

 

 Sandra Coleman, Board Member

 

Sandra Coleman has been CEO of the South West Community Care Access Centre (SW CCAC) since its inception in January 2007. Previously, Sandra was Executive Director of the CCAC London Middlesex since February 2002, and a member of its senior leadership team since 2001.  The South West community care team has worked in close partnership with its service provider, hospital, long-term care home and community support service agency partners to provide high quality home care, implementing many innovative new programs to support clients remaining in their homes.

Sandra also serves on the Board of the Thames Valley Family Health Team and the OACCAC.  Sandra has also participated in and led numerous provincial initiatives.

 

Sandra previously practiced law with Lerner and Associates in the areas of health care, human rights, employment and appellate law. She has litigated in the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the lower courts.   

Sandra has been actively involved as a volunteer with numerous organizations, including Board Chair of Hospice of London for five years during which time she was a leader of their capital campaign which culminated in their new Home for Hospice.  Sandra has been awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Service Award in 1999 and the Province of Ontario’s Leading Women Building Communities Award in 2008.

 

Sandra has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario where she was the recipient of the Gold Medal, and has an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. 

 

Sandra Coleman was elected as a director at-large of the OHA Board in November 2006.

 

 

 David Craig, Board Member

 

David Craig has been a small hospital trustee for the past 18 years, dedicating the first 12 years to the Palmerston and District Hospital, five of which were served as Chair.

 

Beginning in 1995, the Boards of Palmerston and District Hospital and Louise Marshall Hospital in Mount Forest worked together as an alliance, and in 2001, the two facilities amalgamated to form North Wellington Health Care (NWHC). Since its inception, David has served on the NWHC Board for six years in total, acting as Chair for four of the six years, and was recently re-elected for another three-year term. During his last term as Chair, NWHC formed a new alliance with Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus, establishing the North Wellington Health Care Alliance.

 

Apart from his duties as Chair on the NWHC Board, David owns and operates an accounting and tax consulting business dealing with farms and small business clients, which he has operated for the past 26 years.

 

David Craig was elected to the OHA Board in November 2007.

 

 

 Michelle DiEmanuele, Board Member

 

Michelle E. DiEmanuele is President and CEO of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre. She has spent her career in the public and private sectors leading large-scale change and cultural transformation. Previously, Michelle was Associate Secretary of Cabinet and Deputy Minister in the Ontario Government. During this time, she led the renewal of public services through “Service Ontario” including the introduction of the first ever “Money Back Guarantee” for government services in North America. She reformed human resources, information technology and business services for the Ontario Government. She has also served as Interim CEO at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Assistant Deputy Minister of Health, Vice President (Branch and Small Business Banking, Retail Markets/Human Resources), CIBC and Vice President (Human Resources and Organizational Development), Brookfield Properties Ltd.

 

Michelle is in the Hall of Fame of Canada’s Top 100 most Powerful Women and was recognized as a Top 40 under 40. She serves on numerous Boards, including the Conference Board of Canada and the Ontario Hospital Association.

 

She received her BA in Political Science from the University of Waterloo and her MA in Political Science from the University of Toronto.

 

Michelle has extensive experience in driving higher levels of service, people and financial performance through effective change leadership and has worked in healthcare, justice, social services, financial and real estate sectors. She has expertise in human resources management, information technology, business process reengineering, stakeholder management, strategy development, government relations and operations.

 

Her breadth of public sector experience has provided an excellent foundation for understanding regulatory environments and how the private sector can work effectively with government to achieve better outcomes.

Ms. DiEmanuele was elected to the OHA Board in November 2010.

 

 

 Colin Goodfellow, Board Member

 

Colin Goodfellow has been Chief Executive Officer of Kemptvillle District Hospital (KDH) since 2005.  Kemptville District Hospital is a small, rural hospital offering complex continuing care services, in addition to a suite of acute care services. 

Colin has been involved in Ontario’s hospitals and health field for over two decades including Director of Policy and Government Relations, Ontario Hospital Association; Vice-President of the Hospital Council of the Greater Toronto Area; Vice-President, Strategic Operations, Toronto East General Hospital and working with Dr. Henry Friesen to transform the Medical Research Council into the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

 

Colin holds a Master of Business Administration, Queen’s University; Certified Management Accountant, CMA; Certification Voluntary Sector Management, York University and a Bachelor of Arts, Economics, York University.

Colin is a member of the Region 2 Regional Council Executive Committee, and the OHA’s Small Rural and Northern Provincial Leadership Council. 

 

Colin was acclaimed to the OHA Board in November 2008.

 

 

 Derek Graham, Board Member

 

Derek Graham is CEO, Executive Director of Manitoulin Health Centre (a multi-site, rural hospital which delivers care to the Manitoulin Island region of North-Eastern Ontario), a position he has held since 2007.

 

Derek holds a Master of Business Administration in Health Care from the California College for Health Sciences, as well as diplomas in Health Care Administration (OHA) and Medical Laboratory Technology (Algonquin College).

 

Derek has enjoyed a health care career spanning more than 30 years, with experience at the front-line care level, as a registered laboratory technologist in Ottawa, followed by management positions within laboratory services, senior leadership for diagnostic services in the USA and Northern Ontario, leading to Derek’s current CEO tenure.

 

Derek enjoys a rural lifestyle, including boating and fishing from his home on Manitowaning Bay, part of the North Channel of Lake Huron.

 

Derek was elected to the OHA Board in November, 2010.

 

 

 Anton Hart, Board Member

 

Anton Hart is CEO of Longwoods Publishing Corporation. In collaboration with the editorial team of each Longwoods publication, Anton is committed to effective knowledge translation and distribution of carefully selected papers exploring and proposing well developed ideas, policies and practices designed to advance healthcare. An extensive peer to peer education program supports the in-print and on-line publishing model.

 

Anton is currently chair of the Canadian Obesity Network. He led the Ontario Task Force on Methadone Maintenance Treatment Practice;  served on the board of the Sherbourne Health Centre in Toronto and chaired its quality committee; served the Health Information Exchange Education Task Force for the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the computer network Ability OnLine serving young people with disabilities, the GiveLife.ca communications task force, and the knowledge translation panel of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation.

Anton is an ongoing adviser to Canadian Métis and off-reserve aboriginal peoples; the Ontario Hospital Association’s education program; the communication program for the University of Toronto’s Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (Faculty of Medicine); and the Chicago-based HIMSS global health system analytics initiative.

 

Anton Hart was elected as a director at-large of the OHA Board in November 2007.

 

  

  Gaétan Labbé

 

Gaétan Labbé joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 12 years old as a Sea Cadet on 24 June 1963. He was born and raised in Inverness, Quebec. Upon completing his schooling to grade 13th, he joined the regular force at the age of 16 years old. Being first of his graduation, he was admitted to the Canadian Engineering War School Halifax in 1967 with the rank of Sub-Lieutenant. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Sciences in Metallurgical Engineering in 1972 from RMC Halifax, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant(N) and immediately assigned as Chief Engineer aboard the submarine HMCS Okanagan. After two (2) tours at sea, he requested to pursue his education and was subsequently posted at the Canadian Embassy in Paris, France as Military Attaché and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander where he obtained in 1976 his Bachelor of Sciences in Laser and Electron Beam Welding from the European Welding Institute. While assigned to the Surface Fleet aboard HMCS Iroquois upon being promoted Commander in 1986, he pursue further his education by obtaining a Master in Business Organizational Management in 1987 along with a Master of Sciences in Metallurgical Engineering in 1989 from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, USA, where he finished top of his convocation with his research and thesis on “Cold Hydrogen Cracking in Submarine Pressure Hull". Upon his return to Ottawa, he was promoted to the rank of Captain(N) and assigned as Director Maritime Engineering overseeing all aspects of research and construction of naval assets.

 

On 10 August 1990, Captain Labbé was ordered to lead the Canadian Naval Operations in the Persian Gulf commonly known as Operation Frictions. The Task Group comprising of HMCS Athabaskan (Lead Ship), HMCS Terra Nova, both destroyers and the supply ship HMCS Protecteur, with their five embarked Sea Kings helicopters along with the Air Force flying and support crew formed a total of 1242 military personnel. The Task Group (designated as TG 302.3) deployed and sailed from Halifax on 24 August 1990.

 

The Task Group passed undetected through the Strait of Hormuz during the night of 25-26 September 1990 to arrive at its berth in Bahrain on the afternoon of 27 September 1990. The Task Group was assigned to all naval embargoes to Iraq and Kuwait. From its inception, the two destroyers performed 105 boarding and inspections of foreign vessels entering and leaving its assigned grid area. Upon the cease-fire on 28 February 1991, the ships sailed out of Bahrain on 12 March 1991 and arrived in Halifax on 7 April 1991 without any single loss of life and/or materials.

 

Captain Labbé was then assigned as Director of Naval Architecture and Specialty Engineering at NDHQ in Ottawa until his leaving from active service on 11 November 1993 in order to joined the Senate Oversight Committee on Military Spending as its Secretary General under the hospice of General (Ret’d) Romeo Dallaire. Captain Labbé retired from the rank on 22 November 1998.

 

Further to his retirement from the Navy, Gaétan became part of the Leadership Team as Vice President Engineering & Technical Services for Maple Foods Inc. where he further pursued his education by obtaining in 2009 a Master in Business Administration from RMC Kingston. Gaétan decided on 7 April 2011 to leave Maple Leaf in order to dedicate his efforts to his own consulting firm; PROSPEK International Inc.

 

Gaétan is still actively involved in a number of directorial and policy-making organizations such as the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB). He is also locally doing voluntary work such as the Knights of Columbus and other charitable organizations.

 

Gaétan is a Director of the Board of St. Joseph Health Care London (SJHC) and as such participate in the following committees:

Gaétan currently resides in London, Ontario. He is divorced and father of two children.

 

 

 Frances Lankin

 

The Hon. Frances Lankin, PC, LLD (HC) was appointed Co-Commissioner of the Ontario Social Assistance Review Commission by the Province of Ontario In November 2010.  The Commission will be undertaking the largest review of social assistance programs in over 20 years as part of the Provincial Poverty Reduction Strategy and will report its recommendations to government in June 2012. Prior to this Ms. Lankin held the position of President and CEO of United Way Toronto, and from 2001 to 2011, guided the organization through its strategic transformation to become a leading community builder.  In 2009, Frances was appointed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to the Security Intelligence Review Committee, which provides an external review of Canadian Security Intelligence Service operations.  She continues to serve in that capacity.

 

Ms. Lankin was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1990 and served as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Beaches-East York for 11 years.  She held posts as provincial Minister of Government Services, Chair of Management Board, Minister of Health and Minister of Economic Development and Trade and was a member of the Policies and Priorities Committee of Cabinet, Treasury Board and Chair of Cabinet.

 

In 2006, she chaired a federal government commissioned Blue Ribbon Panel, which made recommendations for improving how Ottawa distributes grants and contributions to charities and other organizations. She was a member of the Modernizing Income Security for Working-Age Adults Task Force, which released its report, Time for a Fair Deal, in 2006 and a member of the Mowat Centre Employment Insurance Task Force Advisory Committee, which released report late 2011. She has served on the Boards of several not-for-profit and charitable organizations including Equal Voice, The Canadian Club, The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE), Altruvest Charitable Services, The Greater Toronto Civic Action Board, University of Toronto's School of Public Policy Advisory Committee and the Board of Governors of Seneca College. In 2002 and 2003, she co-chaired the Toronto City Summits. Today, she serves on the, the Mowat Centre’s Advisory Committee, the External Advisory Board of the City Institute at York University, the Ontario Press Council and is Chair of the Telus Toronto Community Board.

 

Frances has been widely recognized for her community work and is a recognized leader in the not-for profit sector. In 2003, Frances was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal. In 2004, she was presented with United Way of Canada’s “Award of Excellence” for her community building work in Toronto. In 2007, she was named the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) “CEO of the Year” for Excellence in Public Relations and received the Toronto Star “Laurel Award”. In 2008, she was named one of More Magazine’s “Top 40 over 40”. That same year, she received the Equal Voice “EVE Award” for her achievements in political life and her efforts to advance the cause of electing more women in Canada and the Consumers’ Choice “Woman of the Year” Award. In 2009, Frances was honoured with the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Toronto's Community Builder Award. In 2009 and 2010, Frances received honourary Doctorate of Laws degrees from Queen’s University and Ryerson University, and an honourary Bachelor of Applied Arts from Seneca College.  In 2011 the Social Planning Committee of Toronto established a community leadership award in her name.  Frances has been named a 2012 Trudeau Mentor, by the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation.

 

Frances was appointed to the OHA Board in 2012.

  

 

 Drupati Maharaj

 

Drupati Maharaj is an experienced  Non-Profit Management Executive, Diversity Consultant, Volunteer, and  Community Activist.  She has several years experience working with diverse communities across Ontario in the non-profit and government sectors, and holds a B.A. in Social Science and Sociology - York University, and an M.Ed. in Sociology of Education and Equity Studies -OISE – U of Toronto.


Drupati held several employment positions that  include: Provincial Sr. Manager for Diversity at the Heart and Stroke Foundation Ontario, Provincial Diversity & Knowledge Exchange Manager at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Diversity Consultant for Central LHIN and Central West LHIN, and Community Relations Specialist at Humber River Regional Hospital. With an aim to  achieve cultural transformation leadership, in implementing organizational change management practices that includes diversity considerations, Drupati has developed a reputation for fairness and non-partisan, evidence-based, policy development and advocacy. 

 

Drupati  presently serves on the Board of Directors at the Toronto Scarborough Hospital, and her   previous  Board experience include her roles as President, Board of Directors at Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women,  Co-Chair, Board of Directors at FoodShare Toronto, and  Member of Board of Directors at South Asian Professional Network Association.  Drupati has been a passionate community activist for the past 20 years, and a former columnist for the Indo-Caribbean World community newspaper.

 

Drupati Maharaj was elected to the OHA Board in November 2011.

 

 

  Richard (Dick) Mannisto, Board Member

 

Dick Mannisto is currently past Chair of the Geraldton District Hospital Board, a board which he has served for seven years.  Dick was also a trustee on the board of The McCausland Hospital in the 1980s for 10 years, serving as Chair for four years.

 

Dick retired in 1999 as the Woodland Vice President, after having worked for 30 years in the pulp and paper wood harvesting business with Kimberly Clark in Northern Ontario.

 

Dick is treasurer of the Greenstone Family Health Team, a member of the Northern Ontario Grow Bonds Board and a member of the System Integration Committee of the North West LHIN.  Dick was also a trustee for 6 years and Chair for two years on the Board of Confederation College in Thunder Bay. 

 

Dick Mannisto was elected to OHA Board in November 2009. 

 

 

Murray Martin, Board Member

 

Murray Martin is one of Canada’s longest serving health care executives, with more than 38 years of health care leadership experience.  He joined Hamilton Health Sciences in 2001 as President and CEO.

 

Hamilton Health Sciences is one of the largest hospital organizations in Canada, made up of six unique hospitals and a cancer centre with an annual budget of more than $1 billion. It is the largest employer in Hamilton with more than 10,000 employees. 

 

Previously, Mr. Martin served as the President and CEO of Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre. He has held a number of other senior management positions including Executive Vice President and COO of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Administrator of the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan, and Assistant Administrator, Swift Current Union Hospital, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

 

Mr. Martin is a native of Saskatchewan and holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Saskatchewan and is a graduate of the health administration program from University of Toronto.  He is a Board member of Accreditation Canada, Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) and numerous other regional and provincial health care committees.  He is a frequent speaker at health care conferences and has authored a number of publications.

 

Murray Martin was elected to the OHA Board in November 2009. 

 

 

 James G. McCracken

 

James McCracken recently retired as director of education for the Ottawa Catholic School Board after a 34 year career in education. He has been a teacher, department head, vice-principal, principal, supervisory officer, deputy director and director of education.  He is well known for his organizational and administrative skills and was recognized by Michael

Fullan in his two most recent books for his leadership ability. 

 

James McCracken is an active member on the board of directors of a number of organizations in the Ottawa community including: Campaign Chairperson, United Way of Ottawa, 2009; Past Chairperson, Success By 6; Past President, Catholic Education Foundation of Ottawa; Director, United Way of Ottawa; Director, Shepherds of Good Hope; Director, Galilee House. Governor, Board of Governors, The Ottawa Hospital.

 

Recent honours include: The Benemerenti Medal conferred by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for distinguished service to the Catholic Church and Community; The Distinguished Civic Award for Humanitarianism awarded by the City of Ottawa; The Distinguished Leadership Award conferred by The Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers Association; The EXL Award for exemplary leadership presented by The Canadian Association of School Administrators; and the Community Builders Award presented by United Way Ottawa. May 20, 2010 was proclaimed as James G. McCracken Day in the City of Ottawa in recognition of his contributions to education and community service
 
James McCracken is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. He holds a B.A. (hons) from Carleton University, a B.Ed from the University of Toronto, and a M.Ed. from the University of Ottawa.

 Sherri L. McCullough, Board Member

 

Sherri McCullough’s experience in the Health Care Sector spans 17 years Volunteer Service at Hotel Dieu Hospital Kingston; of which 7 years as President of Volunteer Services and 8 as an Executive Member of Volunteer Services.

Sherri has been a member of the Board of Directors of Hotel Dieu Hospital for the past six years and has served on Audit, Oversight, Nominating and Strategic Planning Sub Committees of the Board.  Sherri served 1 year as Vice Chair, Resources; 2 years as Chair of Resources;  1 year as Vice Chair, Board of Directors and for the past year Chair, Board of Directors Hotel Dieu Hospital. 

 

Sherri was a Quebec Securities Commission Licensee and an Ontario Securities Commission Licensee.  She works as a Paralegal at Prevost & McCullough Law Firm

 

Sherri graduated from St. Lawrence College with a Marketing diploma (honors); holds both an OHA Health Administration Diploma and OHA Health Care Trustee Institute Diploma.

 

Sherri McCullough was elected to the OHA Board in April 2009.

 

 

 Giles Meikle, FCA

 

Giles R. Meikle, FCA, is retired after a distinguished career of 40 years with Deloitte & Touche (now Deloitte), including 8 years as Chairman and CEO and 2 years as Chairman, and for several years as Deputy Chairman of Deloitte International.  Subsequent to retirement Giles served as Chairman of Scott’s Hospitality, Inc, Chairman of ABN-AMRO Canada (now Royal Bank of Scotland) and on the Boards of Canadian Airlines Ltd and several other companies.  His career has also included terms as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, President of the Canadian Opera Company, Vice Chair of The Sony Centre in Toronto and several other Boards.  He is currently Chair of the Director’s Advisory Group of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants(CICA) and interim Chair of the Risk Oversight & Governance Board of CICA.

 

In the healthcare field, Giles has served on the Boards of Riverdale Hospital (now Bridgepoint), Wellesley Central (vice-chair) and as Chair of Toronto East General Hospital for over 3 years following the restructuring of the hospital’s governance in 2003.  He was also Chair of the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) in 2009/10 and serves on the Board of Salus Global, Inc and as Chair of Hiroc Insurance Services Ltd.

 

Giles Meikle was appointed as a Director At-large to the OHA Board in 2011.

 

 

 Pierre Noel

 

Pierre Noel assumed the position of President and CEO of the Pembroke Regional Hospital in the fall of 2006. Born and raised in Pembroke, he was happy to return to his home town with his spouse, Penny, also from the area, and their two sons.

 

Before assuming this role, Pierre was the CEO of the Wellington Health Care Alliance, a tri-hospital alliance between Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus, Ontario, and the North Wellington Health Care Corporation, which operates hospitals in Mount Forest and in Palmerston, Ontario.

 

Prior to this, Pierre held a number of senior positions in both the public and private health care sectors including a role as special consultant to the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care as part of its Health Reform Implementation Team, Vice-President of Corporate Development at Aetna Health Management, Vice-President of Business Development at Columbia Health Care, Director of the Children’s Program at Laurentian Hospital in Sudbury, and Director of Administrative Services at the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group.

 

Pierre is currently the Vice Chair of the OHA's Medium Sized Hospitals Leadership Council and the Vice Chair of the Catholic Health Association of Ontario.  He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Carleton University and a Master in Health Administration from the University of Ottawa.

 

 Dr. Denis-Richard Roy

 

Dr. Denis-Richard Roy was appointed as President and CEO of the Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital in January 2010.  Dr. Denis-Richard Roy is an internationally-recognized leader and physician specializing in nephrology.

 

Dr. Roy was CEO of the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) from 2002 to 2008. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Roy has held numerous leadership positions with McGill University Health Centre, Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal Thoracic Institute and the Centre hospitalier régional de l’Outaouais, and was most recently Consulting Manager at CHUM.

 

Dr. Roy holds a Masters in Business Administration and his post-doctoral education includes an MRC Research fellow, Renal physiology from Stanford University in the US. He has been a member of several provincial, national and international boards including the Association of Canadian Academic Hospitals, Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation, Medical Research Council of Canada, National Steering Committee on Prevention of Accidents in Health Care Delivery, Nice-Harvard Organizing Committee and served as Vice Chair of the Founding Board for the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. In 2008, he was asked to assist the State of Uttar Pradesh (India) in their planning for specialized hospitals.

 

Dr. Roy was elected to the OHA Board in November 2010.

 

 Maureen Solecki

 

Maureen Solecki, President & CEO, Grey Bruce Health Services, began her health care career at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary in 1979. In 1981 she relocated to Owen Sound to join the hospital as a new regional facility for the Grey Bruce area was under construction. She remained with the hospital through a voluntary amalgamation leading to the creation of Grey Bruce Health Services in 1998. She has served as a Vice President holding several different portfolios including diagnostic, therapeutic and support services. Maureen became President and CEO of Grey Bruce Health Services in May of 2009, and oversees the operation of six hospitals.  Maureen has also lead Grey Bruce Health Services through the development of its strategic plans.

 

Maureen is a graduate of the Master’s program in Health Administration at the University of Toronto and graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours B.A. in Journalism. She is a member of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

 

She has served as a member and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Georgian College, is a past member of the Owen Sound Kiwanis Club and former member and Chair of the Board of the Grey Bruce Community Health Corporation. Maureen is currently co-chairing the SW LHIN’s Cancer Surgery Improvement Project.

 

Maureen Solecki was elected to the OHA Board in November 2011.

 


David Sutherland, Board Member

 

David Sutherland was born of aboriginal descent in Fort Albany First Nation and raised in the traditional family area.  He later attended St. Anne’s Residential school for primary schooling and went to Ottawa for secondary school education.  David is fluent in Cree and English. 

 

He obtained his Legal Administration Diploma from St. Lawrence College, Kingston, ON and secured the Program in Journalism for Native People Diploma from the University of Western Ontario, London, ON.

 

Working for both levels of the Provincial and Federal governments, and native organizations gave him a wealth of experience in the review of native programs with a focus on investigation of administrative and organizational issues.

 

As the Employment and Training Advisor with the Fort Albany First Nation, he facilitates training programs for Band membership, organizes careers fairs in the community, and networks and attends relevant workshops.  He sits on the Governance Planning Committee, part of a self-government initiative which involves community consultations and policy drafting and development. 

 

He has been an active Trustee with the James Bay General Hospital Board of Directors for the past five years.

 

An athlete and an avid runner, David ran the 2009 Boston Marathon and advocates for health prevention for all people.

 

David Sutherland was elected to the OHA Board in November 2009.

 

 

  Leslee Thompson, Board Member

 

Leslee Thompson is President and CEO of Kingston General Hospital.  Leslee has over 20 years of health care experience that extends from the bedside to the boardrooms of some of Canada’s largest public and private sector organizations. Leslee started her career as a critical care nurse, and is now the CEO of Kingston General Hospital, an academic health science centre in southeastern Ontario affiliated with Queen’s University. Prior to the KGH appointment in February 2009, she was Vice President Health System Strategies for Canada with Medtronic, a global medical devices company. She was also on the Board of Directors at Shoppers Drug Mart, a position she held for six years. 

 

Leslee has been a senior executive in almost every part of our health care system: community and teaching hospitals, a regional health authority and a provincial cancer agency. Specifically she was Vice President, Cancer Care Ontario,  Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Sunnybrook & Women’s Health Science Center; Chief Operating Officer of Toronto Western Hospital at University Health Network, and Senior Operating Officer of Royal Alexander  Hospital in Capital Health, Alberta.

 

Leslee has an MBA from University of Western Ontario, a Masters of Nursing from University of Toronto, and a Nursing degree from Queens. She is a Certified Health Care Executive, and is frequently sought out as a trusted opinion leader on major health industry trends and issues. She has delivered hundreds of key note presentations, published articles on health system restructuring and change and won awards for her contributions to the nursing profession, her leadership of a national public service program, and for the advancement of best practices in health care management.

 

Leslee Thompson was elected to the OHA Board in November 2009.

 

 

 Marianne Walker, Board Member

 

Marianne Walker has over 22 years of leadership experience. She is the President and Chief Executive Officer at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario. St. Joseph’s Health Centre is a 224 bed Health Centre that provides Rehabilitation, Complex Continuing Care, Long Term Care, Ambulatory Care, Community Support Services, Alzheimer Day Program, Out Patient Therapy, and Acquired Brain Injury and Children’s Speech Language pathology services. St. Joseph’s Health Centre is part of St. Joseph’s Health System, a large corporation that includes approximately 1625 acute and LTC beds in five facilities throughout southwestern Ontario.

 

Previously, Marianne held several senior positions including Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer and several clinical management positions in the areas of surgical services, mental health, paediatrics, maternal newborn, diagnostics, and infection control at a large acute care community hospital.

 

Marianne’s expertise is in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, integration of vision and mission, resources management and business planning, quality and risk management, and human resources.

 

Marianne holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McMaster University and a Master of Health Sciences from the University of Toronto. She is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Executives and a member of the American College of Health Executives. Marianne is on the Executive Committee of the Hamilton and Area chapter of the Canadian College of Health Executives.

 

Marianne Walker was elected to the OHA Board in January 2009.

 


 Marian Walsh, Board Member

 

Marian Walsh is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Bridgepoint Health, a position she has held since 1998. Bridgepoint Health is a publicly-funded health care organization located in Toronto that provides patient care, research and education in the specialized field of complex chronic disease prevention and management. Affiliated with the University of Toronto, Bridgepoint Health comprises Bridgepoint Hospital, the Bridgepoint Family Health Team, the Bridgepoint Collaboratory for Research and Innovation, and the Bridgepoint Health Foundation.  

 

Under Marian’s leadership, Bridgepoint has established a bold vision for the future to be Canada’s leader in complex chronic disease prevention and management – acknowledged as the biggest health care challenge of the 21st century.   In December 2008, Bridgepoint Health was awarded the inaugural Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC)/Deloitte Gold Award for Leadership in the Public Sector.  This national award distinguishes Bridgepoint Health as an organization that is transforming itself, and in turn, is helping to transform health care.

 

Concurrently with her role at Bridgepoint, Marian assumed the role of Interim President and CEO of the New Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, from September 2006 to June 2007.

 

Prior to joining Bridgepoint, Marian was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Home Care Program for Metropolitan Toronto, the largest publicly-funded home care organization in North America. She was also Special Advisor to Ministers of Health and Social Services in Newfoundland.

 

An active health care executive for almost 30 years, Marian continues her service in a wide range of roles in the Ontario Hospital Association; the Rehab Network of Toronto and the Complex Care and Rehabilitation Leadership Council of Ontario.  She is a member of the Advisory Committee, Faculty of Health Administration at the University of Toronto and co-chairs the LHIN/OHA HAPS/HSAA Steering Committee. 

 

She holds an MBA from St. Mary’s University, Halifax; a Bachelors in Social Work from Memorial University of Newfoundland and is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.

Marian Walsh was elected to the OHA Board in November 2008.

 

 

 Jennifer Wilson, Board Member

 

Jennifer Wilson is Past Chair of St. Joseph’s Hospital, a part of the Chatham Kent Health Alliance and Past Chair of the Public General Hospital and has been involved on the Hospital Boards of the Alliance Hospital Board since 1998.

 

Additional current board involvement include Executive Director of Chatham Kent Essex Lambton Chernobyl Children Fund, (provides health respites to children from the radioactive contaminated regions of the country of Belarus) and Vice Chair of the Chatham Kent YMCA.  Recent past Board involvement include Past Chair, Tri County Literacy Network and Past Director, Kent Federation of Agriculture.

 

Jennifer and her husband Jeff are owner operators of a fifth generation family cash crop and vegetable farm and she is the owner employee of Thompson Ltd., a third generation agri service business.  

 

Jennifer obtained her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree from the University of Western Ontario, and a Class 5 Advanced

Agriculture Leadership Program from the University of Guelph.

 

Jennifer Wilson was elected to OHA Board in November 2009.
